Courtroom Sharing for Federal Judge’s
It appears that the economy and financial planning has hit even the federal levels of judicial system. Chief Judge, Anthony Scirica, (3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals), said at a press conference that shared courtrooms was part of the judiciary’s ongoing cost containment efforts and a response to congressional pressure to find ways to “use courtrooms effectively.”
However, what was not said was that there are few courthouses planned to be constructed in the near future. The Chief Judge added that the number of trials is dropping, with many cases settling or being diverted to private arbitration.
Cost cutting and running your business “judicial system” budget is essential in all aspects of public life. The judicial branch’s budget is likely to go up close to 5 percent next year to $6.5 billion states Chief Judge Scirica.
