Fannie Mae Forgives Mortgage of Elderly Women who Shot Herself

An elderly women was being evicted by the sheriff shot herself in the chest. She was the sole owner of the home/ Her husband died in 1995. According to court and property records, she took out a mortgage loan in 1997 and refinanced several times.

Fannie Mae announced later Friday that it would dismiss its foreclosure action, forgive Polk’s mortgage and allow her to return to the Akron home where she’s lived since 1970. Report by Time.com.

This reminds me of the Great Depression when people jumped from windows to commit suicide. Times are harsh, but when do we need to take responsibility for our actions. This lady is expected to recover and will leave the hospital with a home that is hers debt free with the taxpayers footing the bill. These are not perfect times … however who benefited from the money taken when the home was refinanced several times - not the taxpayers.
