Fight for Your Right … Speeding Ticket
A 24 year old women fought for her belief that she was right and the posted speed limit was wrong. It was alleged that she was traveling 44 mph in a 25 mph posted speed zone.
She represented herself and questioned the officer in court during her trial. The judge ruled against her, found her guilty and ordered her to pay the $100 ticket. She did not stop there. She still believed she was correct and appealed the decision herself.
Ultimately the higher court sided with the lower court decision. The state’s Supreme Court found the burden of proof was on her to show relevancy of an engineering study in relation to the posted speed limit. The court concluded that she did not show its relevancy. The court continued that she did not overcome the presumption that the posted speed limit was valid. Reported by seacoastonline.com
